What should I organize first after arrival in Armenia?

First confirm safe accommodation, a working phone, access to Armenian drams, and the conditions of your legal stay. These four items support nearly every later task.

Is Armenian needed for arrival in Armenia?

You can manage some situations with Russian or English, especially in Yerevan, but basic Armenian words and an address written in Armenian are very helpful. In smaller places, Armenian becomes more important.

Does arrival registration in Armenia work the same for everyone?

No, duties can depend on nationality, entry basis, length of stay, residence plans, and accommodation. Check which separate steps apply to your own situation before relying on another person's experience.

Arrival in Armenia

Arriving in Armenia means learning how transport, money, communication, and local administration work together. Yerevan offers the widest range of services, while routines in smaller cities and villages may be more personal and less centralized. A calm first week helps you build a reliable base.

Armenia is a compact country, but daily life differs between Yerevan, regional cities, and villages. Provinces are called marzer, and one province is a marz. Most international arrivals begin at an airport or a land border. Keep your passport, entry documents, destination address, and host or accommodation contact easy to reach. The national currency is the Armenian dram, written as AMD. Cards are common in many urban businesses, but cash remains useful for markets, small shops, regional transport, and rural services. Armenian is the official language and uses its own alphabet. Russian is also widely understood in many settings, while English is more common among younger people and in visitor-facing services. Mobile internet is an important first tool. A local mobile connection supports maps, translation, transport arrangements, banking messages, and contact with landlords or public offices. Addresses can be harder to locate than expected because entrances, building numbers, and map markers do not always match clearly. Confirm the entrance, floor, apartment number, and a nearby landmark before travelling. Administrative duties depend on citizenship, length and purpose of stay, housing, work, and family situation. Entry permission, residence status, address-related formalities, tax matters, and employment permission are separate questions. Personal introductions matter in Armenia. Hosts, landlords, colleagues, and neighbors can often explain local routines, but important agreements and official requirements should still be confirmed in writing. Your first practical goal is a stable base with safe housing, working communication, accessible money, and a clear legal status. Once these are secure, other parts of life become much easier to organize.
