Nature in Andorra

Andorra’s nature ranges from the mid- and high-elevation Pyrenees through forests, alpine pastures and scree fields to rivers, lakes and wetlands. Three central protected areas preserve special landscapes, species and traditional uses: Sorteny, Comapedrosa and the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley (Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror). Hiking, grazing, hunting, fishing, skiing and settlement development interact with the protection of water, habitats and biodiversity.

Tip

Plan nature activities in Andorra according to the protected area, weather conditions and permitted use, not only by distance. For a simple hike on marked paths, checking access, hut status, and avalanche and forest-fire conditions is usually sufficient; swimming, drones, bicycles, vehicles, fires and commercial activities require additional checks or authorisation depending on the area. For fishing, hunting, water works or events, consult the current regulation and responsible authority in advance.
