Living in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a landlocked country between Central and South Asia and borders, among others, Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan. Around 37.2 million people live there. The country is shaped by the Hindu Kush, extensive high plateaus, dry valleys and deserts. The continental climate brings hot summers and cold winters; snow falls in the mountains, while the south and west are drier. In cities, many people live in densely built-up neighbourhoods, while in rural areas they live in villages with houses made of mud or bricks. Many work in agriculture, livestock farming, trade or services. People travel on foot, by bus, shared taxi or private vehicle. Visiting family, sharing meals, tea and sport are popular leisure activities in many places.
