Shopping in Cyprus

Everyday shopping in Cyprus usually combines several kinds of seller. Supermarkets cover general needs, while bakeries, fruit shops, butchers, and markets may offer more specialised products. A common local convenience shop is the periptero, especially in Greek-speaking areas. It typically sells drinks, snacks, newspapers, and small daily necessities. Large towns offer wider product choice than villages. Imported goods can be easy to find in urban or tourist areas but may cost more or be unavailable elsewhere. Cards are widely accepted in many established shops, but cash remains useful for small purchases and some local sellers. Always check the displayed currency and final amount before paying. Opening hours differ by business, location, season, Sunday, and public holiday. Smaller family-run shops may follow their own daily pattern. Food labels may appear in Greek, Turkish, English, or several languages. Read storage instructions and allergen information carefully rather than judging a product only by its front label. For larger purchases, compare the full cost, warranty terms, delivery, installation, and return conditions. Keep the receipt and any written promise from the seller. Online shopping is available, but delivery coverage and collection arrangements differ by address. Confirm whether the seller delivers to your exact area before ordering.
