Living in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is located in Central Asia and borders, among others, Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan; around 6.3 million people live there. The country is shaped by high mountains, broad high-altitude valleys and Issyk-Kul. Summers in the valleys and the north are often warm, while winters can be cold; at higher elevations, temperatures remain considerably cooler and there is more snow. Many people live in cities such as Bishkek or Osh, while others live in smaller towns and villages. In daily life, they travel by bus, marshrutka or private car, work in trade, agriculture, services or mining, and spend time with family, guests and outdoors. Living conditions differ considerably depending on the region, elevation and proximity to cities.
