Living in Macedonia

North Macedonia is located in southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula and is a landlocked country. Around 2.1 million people live there. Mountains, fertile basins, and the Vardar River shape the landscape; Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa lie in the west. The climate ranges from winters and hot summers with a continental character inland to milder influences in the south. In Skopje, many people live in apartments and get around by bus, car, or on foot, while in smaller towns houses and close-knit neighborhoods are more common. Jobs are found, among other sectors, in services, trade, industry, and agriculture. Cafés, markets, shared meals, and trips to lakes or into the mountains are popular leisure activities in many places.
