Health in Rwanda

Health services in Rwanda combine community care, health posts and centres, district hospitals, and higher-level provincial, referral and teaching hospitals. Community Health Workers (CHWs) support prevention, basic community case management and referrals, while facilities provide testing, treatment, medicines, maternity and child health, rehabilitation and follow-up. Access and payment depend on urgency, facility capacity, referral requirements and the health-insurance package, including Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI). Emergency medical transport through SAMU is available 24/7 on 912.
