Languages in El Salvador

Spanish, also called Castellano, is the official and nationwide working language of El Salvador. English is the most relevant foreign language, with school programmes, university courses, private providers and work-focused training. Náhuat remains a living but endangered Indigenous language, while Lenca and Cacaopera programmes are still being developed. French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Salvadoran sign-language courses serve more specific educational, cultural, professional or inclusion-related needs.
