Languages in Eritrea

Eritrea has several widely used languages, including Tigrinya, Tigre, Arabic, English, Bilen, Saho, Afar, Kunama, Nara and Bdawyet. The Constitution recognizes equality among Eritrean languages, and no single official language is evidenced. Language learning mainly follows the school system: mother tongues are used in elementary education, while English becomes the main teaching language from the middle grades.
