Transport in Azerbaijan

Transport, called nəqliyyat, is organized differently in Bakı, other cities, and rural areas. Population density and geography determine which services are practical. The Bakı Metro is a major form of urban transport and connects important residential, business, and central districts. Stations use signs and announcements that make learning the network easier with a map. City buses cover routes beyond the metro. Stops, vehicle standards, frequency, accessibility, and payment arrangements can differ, so regular passengers should learn the local system used on each route. Taxis provide door-to-door travel and are useful with luggage, at night, or where public transport is indirect. Use a clearly identified service and confirm the destination, fare method, and pickup point before departure. Marşrut commonly refers to a fixed-route minibus or similar shared road service. It can connect neighborhoods, towns, or villages, but comfort, luggage space, and schedule predictability may be limited. Rail and intercity buses link selected cities and regions. Not every destination has a direct connection, so some journeys require a transfer to a taxi, minibus, or private vehicle. Driving requires attention to local traffic behavior, road conditions, parking, pedestrians, and weather. Mountain, winter, or remote routes can be much more demanding than city roads. Walking is practical in some central areas but may be difficult where pavements, crossings, lighting, or accessibility are limited. Plan routes for children, wheelchairs, prams, or reduced mobility before beginning the trip.
