Elections in Tuvalu

Elections in Tuvalu select members of the unicameral Parliament and members of local Kaupule councils. National parliamentary elections use eight electoral districts with two seats each and a plurality block vote, while candidates currently run as independents without a formal party system. Voters register for a home island or another qualifying district, so registration status, polling arrangements and inter-island travel affect participation.

Tip

Treat elections in Tuvalu as an island-linked process: your registration district largely determines where you can vote, while transport and weather can affect participation. Parliamentary elections concern national representation, whereas Kaupule elections concern local council decisions and use different eligibility, nomination and ballot rules. Protect your participation by checking the published deadlines early, following campaign restrictions precisely, and keeping records if you need to challenge a result.
