Living in Singapore

Singapore is a densely populated city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, near the Equator; around 5.6 million people live there. The tropical climate is warm and humid year-round, with frequent, sometimes heavy showers. Parks, bodies of water and protected natural areas lie among high-rises, residential complexes and business districts; some smaller islands differ markedly from the urban main island. Many people live in well-connected high-rise developments and get around by MRT, bus, bicycle or on foot. Employment is concentrated mainly in services, trade, logistics and technology. Markets, shopping centres, sports facilities and hawker centres shape leisure time, while location and income noticeably influence everyday life.
