Poland is in the European Union and the Schengen area. Keep your travel document easy to reach and answer officials clearly about your visit, accommodation, and purpose of travel. After arrival, arrange a safe first address and learn how to reach the local urząd miasta or urząd gminy. These are municipal offices that handle many local matters. Meldunek is the Polish word for address registration. It can be useful for administration, but it is not the same as owning a home or having a rental contract. PESEL is a personal identification number used in many public and everyday services. A residence card is called karta pobytu, and immigration matters are commonly handled through the voivodeship office, called urząd wojewódzki. Keep copies of your passport or identity card, rental agreement, insurance information, travel tickets, and official letters. Use Polish and English labels carefully, because the same office may use a Polish name in forms and signs. Arrival becomes easier when you separate urgent needs from later tasks. First secure housing, communication, food, and emergency knowledge, then handle registrations, banking, work, school, or other longer-term arrangements. The main limits are that entry rights, residence rights, and local registration are different matters. Ask the responsible Polish office or a qualified adviser when your citizenship, family situation, work, or study plans make the case special.
