Immigration law in Afghanistan

Immigration law in Afghanistan regulates entry, visas, residence, work, study, protection and naturalization. Formal procedures mainly run through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afghan diplomatic missions, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labor; practical implementation often depends on the responsible mission and the individual case. A separate publicly documented permanent residence permit has not currently been established.

Tip

Plan entry into Afghanistan strictly according to the actual purpose and treat work, longer residence, family connections, protection and naturalization as separate procedures. Do not rely on a tourist visa for employment or on automatic extension, a permanent right of residence or later nationality.

Right of residence

Residence law clarifies permits, deadlines, rights and duties.
