Small stores are convenient for everyday items close to home. The currency is the Uzbekistani sum, written as UZS. Cash is still important in many markets and small shops, although cards and electronic payments are common in larger businesses. Some shops use fixed prices, especially supermarkets and modern stores. In bazaars and informal stalls, polite bargaining may be accepted, but it should remain friendly and reasonable. Check the quality, size, color, packaging, and quantity before paying. For packaged goods, look at the production and expiry information when it is provided. Traditional purchases may include textiles, ceramics, embroidery, woodwork, carpets, dried foods, and other craft items. The quality and origin of similar-looking goods can differ considerably.
