Living in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates lie on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula along the Persian Gulf and consist of seven emirates. Around 9.6 million people live there. Coasts, vast deserts and the Hajar Mountains in the east shape the landscape. Summers are very hot and often humid along the coast, while winters are mild and considerably cooler in the mountains. Many people live in modern residential complexes; Emirati citizens also often live in larger family homes. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, metros, buses and well-developed roads make getting around easier, while elsewhere the car is more important. Jobs are found particularly in trade, services, energy, construction and industry. Leisure activities include beaches, parks, sports and spending time with family and friends.
