Nature in Tuvalu

Tuvalu's nature consists of nine extremely low-lying coral atolls and reef islands, surrounded by reefs, lagoons, shallow marine areas and ocean. Land covers about 26 square kilometres, while the island chain extends roughly 600 kilometres and usually rises only 1 to 2 metres above sea level. Marine ecosystems support fisheries, food security and income, but they face warming, coral bleaching, pollution, overfishing, storms and coastal change.
