The Tuvalu Telecommunications Corporation, or TTC, is the main internet provider, and the ministry responsible for communication acts as regulator. Social media is a common intended use of internet access, but sharing personal details online creates privacy, scam and unwanted-contact risks. Repeated unwanted calls, emails or direct messages should not continue after a clear refusal; blocking and reporting are practical responses. Local rules also affect social meetings. Every island has a daily quiet period from 6:45 pm to 7:00 pm. Causing road-traffic disruption or noise during that period is prohibited except in an emergency. A first offence may lead to a warning or a $100 fine payable within 14 days. A repeat offence may lead to 30 hours of community service, a $300 fine or imprisonment for up to one month. Children aged 4 to 15 must not be alone in public after 9:00 pm, except when accompanied by an adult or taking part in learning, youth, religious or community activities. Alcohol, including yagona or kava, is prohibited nationwide on Sundays. Local rules should be checked with the relevant Kaupule or organiser before attending an activity. A safe first meeting takes place in a public setting. Tell a trusted person where you are going, arrange your own transport home and avoid sharing your home address, financial information or identity documents at an early stage. Pressure, threats, stalking or repeated unwanted contact are not normal obligations of acquaintance. The Family Protection and Domestic Violence Act 2022 Revised Edition includes harassment such as repeated watching or loitering, calls, emails, sexual harassment and stalking, but its protection framework concerns domestic relationships, including traditionally or socially recognised family relationships, rather than every acquaintance. Protection orders can be handled through an Island Court, Magistrates' Court, Senior Magistrates' Court or the High Court, depending on the case. An Emergency Protection Order can last up to 72 hours, and a Temporary Protection Order can last 30 days.
