Living in Tuvalu

Tuvalu is located in the central Pacific, north of Fiji, and consists of nine small atolls and islands. Around 11,508 people live there. The country is flat, narrow, and surrounded by lagoons and coral reefs. A tropical climate prevails year-round, with warm temperatures, humid months, and varying rainfall; strong winds can make everyday life more difficult. Many people live close together on Funafuti, while the outer islands are more strongly shaped by village communities, fishing, and coconut cultivation. People usually get around on foot, by scooter, or by boat. Jobs, schools, and medical services are concentrated mainly in the capital; leisure time is often spent with family, by the water, or at community events.
