Living in Tanzania

Tanzania is located in East Africa on the Indian Ocean and comprises the mainland as well as the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba; around 56.3 million people live there. Vast savannas, large lakes, fertile highlands, and Mount Kilimanjaro shape the landscape. The coast is usually hot and humid, while the interior is drier; higher elevations have a milder climate. In Dar es Salaam, many people live in densely populated neighborhoods and get around by bus, motorcycle taxi, or on foot, while bicycles and local buses are important in rural areas. Agriculture, trade, services, and tourism shape working life. Markets, visiting family, football, and music are popular pastimes in many places; Zanzibar has a more coast-oriented daily life than the mainland.
