Living in Tajikistan

Tajikistan lies in Central Asia and has around 9.1 million inhabitants. The country is strongly shaped by the Pamir Mountains and other mountain ranges; fertile valleys and rivers lie between high passes. In the lower regions, summers are hot and dry, while winters in the mountains can be long, cold, and snowy. Many people live in cities such as Dushanbe or Khujand, while others live in villages where houses, gardens, and livestock farming shape everyday life. In the cities, people travel by bus, taxi, and private car; in rural areas, journeys are often longer. Jobs can be found in sectors including trade, agriculture, construction, and services. Family visits, shared meals, and celebrations are an integral part of life in many places.
