Disasters in Syria

Disasters in Syria include earthquakes, floods, drought and water scarcity, extreme heat, wildfires, winter storms, dust storms, landslides and failures of essential infrastructure. Risks vary by area: earthquakes are especially severe in the northwest, floods affect river and coastal areas, drought is persistent in the northeast and Euphrates region, and wildfires are concentrated in coastal governorates. Warning, rescue, evacuation, aid and recovery depend on local access and coordination among the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management (MEDM), governorate authorities, Civil Defence, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) and international partners.
