Banks in Sudan

Sudan has a formal banking system supervised and licensed by the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS), with both Islamic Sharia-based and conventional banking practices. CBOS's official operating-bank list contains 38 banks, while separate licensed registers cover exchange bureaus, remittance providers, ijara institutions and microfinance institutions. Banks provide accounts, cash services, transfers, cards and digital channels, but availability, fees, limits and branch reach vary by provider and location.

Tip

Treat choosing a bank in Sudan as an access and risk decision, not only as a search for a nearby branch. Select a CBOS-listed provider whose branch, ATM, app, USSD or wallet access matches how you receive, hold and transfer money, and confirm current fees, limits and availability before committing funds. Keep written records of the provider's licence, account terms, transaction limits and complaint contacts.
