Immigration law in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone immigration law governs entry, visas, residence, work, protection, citizenship and removal. A non-citizen is a person who does not hold Sierra Leone citizenship. The main authorities are the Sierra Leone Immigration Department, the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, the National Refugee Authority and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Tip

Choose the shortest immigration pathway that matches your actual purpose and planned stay in Sierra Leone. Confirm admission, permit, identity-document and fee requirements before travel or work, because a visa does not guarantee entry and a residence permit does not create permanent residence or citizenship. Keep written evidence of every submission, payment, decision and deadline, especially where a refugee appeal may be due within 30 days.

Right of residence

Residence law clarifies permits, deadlines, rights and duties.
