Living in Serbia
Serbia lies in the center of the Balkans, has no coastline, and is home to around 7 million people. The Danube and the Sava cross the country; in the north, the flatter, agriculture-oriented Vojvodina stretches out, while Šumadija and the south and east are characterized by hills and mountains. The climate ranges from hot, dry summers and cold winters in the lowlands to cooler conditions at higher elevations. In Belgrade, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods and use buses, trams, or cars; smaller towns and villages are more dependent on cars. Employment is concentrated especially in the capital and regional centers, while agriculture, crafts, family visits, and social gatherings shape everyday life in many places.
