Living in San Marino

San Marino is a small landlocked country in the northern Apennines, completely surrounded by Italy, with around 33,785 people. Hills, wooded slopes and the distinctive Monte Titano shape the landscape; the climate is predominantly Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cooler, wetter winters, while higher elevations can be fresher. Many people live in hillside municipalities or more densely built-up places and travel short distances for work, school and shopping, often also to nearby Italy. Service businesses, trade, administration and small enterprises shape everyday life. In the capital and historic districts, life is more urban; outside them, it is quieter and more strongly shaped by life in smaller communities.
