Living in the Republic of the Congo

Kongo-Brazzaville lies in Central Africa on the Atlantic coast, bordering Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Around 5.2 million people live there. Extensive rainforests stretch across the north, while the south is more strongly characterised by savannas; the climate is predominantly tropical, often humid along the coast and regionally varied inland. In Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, many people live in densely populated neighbourhoods, get around by minibuses, taxis or on foot, and work in areas such as trade, services, industry and energy. In rural areas, agriculture, fishing and river transport shape everyday life. Family life, music, football and markets shape leisure time.
