A depositum is money held as security for the rental relationship. It should be handled through the proper arrangement stated in the agreement, not through an informal payment that is difficult to recover. A borettslag is a housing cooperative in which residents own shares connected to a dwelling. A sameie is a jointly owned property, often a condominium building with shared rules and costs. Rent, electricity, heating, internet and shared charges may be treated separately. Felleskostnader are common costs connected with shared property and services. Housing rules can cover pets, noise, smoking, renovations, parking, laundry rooms, waste and use of common areas. Neighbours are expected to respect quiet and shared spaces. At move-in, document the condition of the home, meter readings, keys and any damage. Report problems in writing and keep copies of notices, payments and agreements.
