Romantic relationship in Moldova

People in Moldova commonly meet potential partners through education and online contacts at ages 15 to 29, while people over 45 more often meet through work; friends, private parties and social events also remain relevant. Among unmarried people aged 15 to 79, 51.8% reported that they intended to marry within three years and 70.8% intended to cohabit. Cohabitation means living together as partners without registering a marriage. Lifetime cohabitation experience was reported by 71.6% of men and 78.0% of women. Early marriage or cohabitation before age 18 was reported for 2.9% of men and 14.2% of women, with higher rates among rural women than urban women. Social expectations remain strong: 95.0% associate a child's wellbeing with a family containing a mother and father, and more than 90% associate a fulfilled life with having children. The Telefonul de Încredere pentru Femei și Fete at 0 8008 8008 provides free, anonymous and confidential support 24 hours a day, including counselling, referrals, shelter access and legal-aid guidance. A protection order can be issued within 24 hours and may require the aggressor to leave the shared home, keep away, stop contact, contribute to children's needs or surrender weapons. A non-marital breakup is generally private and has no dedicated state registration procedure. Consequences involving shared housing, assets or children depend on the circumstances and belong to family or civil-law questions rather than a single relationship procedure. For married couples, divorce may proceed administratively through ASP, through a court or through a notary, depending on the legal conditions. An eligible joint administrative filing can be registered within 25 working days and costs 900 MDL at a counter or 810 MDL online; concessions may make it free. A court or notarial procedure can be completed on the relevant legal basis within up to three working days without a fee. After divorce, a person may retain the married name or return to a previous name.
