Living in Morocco

Morocco lies in northwestern Africa between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The country stretches from the Rif and Atlas Mountains to dry landscapes in the south; around 36 million people live here. The climate is generally mild along the coast, while inland summers are hot and dry and winters become cooler. Snow falls in the mountains. Many people live in apartments in growing cities, while in rural areas they also live in smaller houses or villages. Trains, buses, taxis, and cars connect the regions, although journeys in remote areas can take longer. Jobs can be found, among other sectors, in trade, agriculture, industry, and services. Family visits, markets, cafés, and shared meals shape leisure activities in many places; Casablanca and Rabat differ markedly from oases, mountain villages, and cities in the south.
