Living in Malawi

Malawi is located in southeastern Africa and has around 17.6 million people. Lake Malawi, high plateaus and fertile valleys shape the landscape. During the rainy season, it is warm and humid in many places, while the dry season is usually sunny; in the north and at higher elevations, temperatures are often milder. Many people live in rural villages in simple homes and work in agriculture, while Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu have a more urban character. In everyday life, people often travel on foot, by bicycle or by minibus. Markets, football, music and gatherings with family and friends are as much a part of life as working in fields, shops or public service.
