Language in Macedonia

An official language is a language that public institutions use in administrative and other official procedures. In North Macedonia, Macedonian is the official state language and uses Cyrillic in public institutions, while Albanian has national official status under the 20% rule. Municipal languages can receive official use when a community reaches 20% locally or the municipality adopts a decision. Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish, Romani, Bosnian, Serbian and Vlach are also used in education, media, culture and public participation at different levels.
