Consumer protection in Macedonia

Consumer protection in North Macedonia gives private individuals rights when they buy goods or services for non-business purposes from a company or other professional supplier. It covers purchases, contracts, digital services, financial products, travel, energy, food, medicines, medical devices, complaints and fraud. The usual first step is a complaint to the supplier; depending on the matter, consumers can then contact the State Market Inspectorate, a sector regulator, the Ombudsman, OPM or a court. Suppliers must provide clear, accurate and timely information about products, services, prices, identity, payment and guarantees.

Tip

Treat a consumer problem in North Macedonia as an evidence-and-escalation process. Complain to the supplier in a traceable form first when appropriate, preserve every document and deadline, then use the authority responsible for the specific sector. Choose mediation only when a voluntary settlement is useful; do not assume that an inspector, regulator or OPM will automatically award compensation.
