Religion in Liechtenstein

Religion in Liechtenstein includes a dominant Roman Catholic parish network and smaller Protestant, Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish, free-church, Bahá’i and Buddhist communities. In the 2020 census, 70% of the resident population identified as Roman Catholic, 8% as Protestant, 6% as Muslim, 1% as Christian Orthodox and 10% as having no religious affiliation. The Roman Catholic Church is Liechtenstein’s national church with full state protection, while other communities currently operate under private law. Religious education, worship, holidays and life ceremonies depend on the school, municipality or religious community involved.

Tip

Choose a religious community, school subject or ceremony provider according to the specific service you need, because access, costs and available facilities differ between communities and municipalities in Liechtenstein. Treat civil registration, religious arrangements and public-school choices as separate processes, and confirm each requirement directly before fixing a date.
