Living in Liberia

Liberia lies on the Atlantic coast of West Africa and has around 4.8 million people. Tropical rainforest, mangroves, rivers and long sandy beaches shape the country. The coast is warm and humid year-round, with a pronounced rainy season; inland, the dry season is more noticeable, while the forested hills in the north and east influence the climate regionally. In Monrovia, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods and get around by minibuses, taxis or motorcycles. Outside the capital, settlements are often smaller, distances longer and vehicles less regularly available. Agriculture, trade, fishing, services and the natural resources sector shape work in many areas. Visiting family, football, music and shared meals are often part of leisure time.
