Living in Lesotho

Lesotho is a country in southern Africa completely surrounded by South Africa; around 2.1 million people live there. The kingdom is shaped by vast plateaus, deep valleys and the Maloti Mountains. Its high elevation brings sunny days, cool nights and cold, snowy winters, while summer rainfall varies by region. In Maseru and other cities, many people live in houses and small rental apartments; in rural areas, scattered villages, simple homes and livestock farming shape everyday life. People use minibuses, cars or horses for travel, especially in remote mountain regions. Employment can be found in areas including trade, public service, agriculture and the textile industry. Family life, community and shared celebrations are important in many places.
