Living in Jordan

Jordan is located in the Middle East and borders, among others, Israel, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Around 10 million people live there. The country stretches from the more fertile north and the highlands around Amman to vast deserts in the east and south; in the Jordan Valley and by the Red Sea near Aqaba, the climate is warmer, while winters in the highlands can be cool. Many people live in cities, especially in Amman, often in apartments or houses made of light-colored stone. In everyday life, buses, taxis and private cars play an important role. Work is concentrated in cities, trade, services and some industrial areas; in rural regions, agriculture, family life and smaller towns shape daily life.
