Living in the Seychelles
The Seychelles are an island nation in the western Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, with around 96,762 people. Granite islands such as Mahé, Praslin and La Digue alternate with low-lying coral islands; tropical forests, beaches and coastal waters shape the natural environment. The climate is warm and humid year-round, with a more pronounced rainy season and shifting monsoon winds. Most people live on Mahé, often in houses on densely built-up slopes or along coastal roads. Buses, cars, bicycles and boats connect towns and islands. Many work in tourism, public service, trade or fishing. On smaller and more remote islands, everyday life is quieter and more dependent on supply ships.
