Insurance transfers a defined risk to an insurer in exchange for a premium and compliance with the policy conditions. It reduces certain financial losses but does not prevent accidents, illness, theft, or damage. Hungary’s social insurance system, called “társadalombiztosítás,” connects eligible people with healthcare and other social protections. A TAJ number identifies a person within the health and social-security administration, but the number alone does not always prove current entitlement. Public healthcare coverage and private health insurance are not the same. Private services may provide additional access or convenience, but the exact examinations, treatments, providers, waiting rules, and exclusions depend on the contract. Vehicle owners must consider compulsory motor third-party liability insurance, commonly called “kötelező gépjármű-felelősségbiztosítás” or KGFB. It is designed for liability toward others, while separate cover is needed for many losses to the insured vehicle itself. Home insurance, or “lakásbiztosítás,” can cover selected risks involving a building, belongings, liability, or temporary accommodation. Owners and tenants need different combinations, and valuable items may require special limits or declarations. Travel insurance can address selected medical costs, assistance, cancellation, luggage, or liability abroad. Destination, trip purpose, planned activities, health conditions, and existing cover affect whether a policy is suitable. Life insurance can pay after death or combine protection with a savings or investment element. These forms should be separated clearly because their costs, access, risk, and purpose differ. Liability insurance protects against certain claims when the insured causes harm to another person or property. Professional or business activity may require a different policy from ordinary private liability cover. Every policy has definitions, limits, exclusions, waiting periods, duties, and a claims process. The cheapest premium can be poor value if the most important risk is excluded or the insured amount is too low. Claims should be reported promptly through an accepted channel and supported with evidence. Photos, reports, receipts, medical documents, damaged items, and correspondence may all help establish what happened and the size of the loss.
