Language in Guinea

Guinea has a multilingual language landscape in which French and the national languages are official, while French remains the working language of the state. Poular, Maninka, Soussou, Koniaké, Kissi, Kpèlè, Toma, Kono and Mano have major regional or community roles, alongside other languages and Guinean Sign Language. French dominates formal administration, courts, schooling and written official communication, while national languages carry much of everyday, cultural and regional public life. Access therefore depends on region, institution, literacy and the language used in the specific procedure.
