The formal system is called enseignement supĂ©rieur. It includes public universities, institutes and schools as well as private higher-education institutions, known locally as IES. Guinea has used the Licence-Master-Doctorat structure, or LMD, since October 2007, and teaching is primarily in French. The standard entry pathway begins with the BaccalaurĂ©at, commonly shortened to BAC. Applicants enter their identity and BAC information in ParcourSup GuinĂ©e, rank up to 15 programmes and pay a 50,000 GNF orientation fee through Orange Money. The application record can require the BAC results document, session, option, lycĂ©e and examination centre, together with a personal email address and telephone number. Programme allocation considers the order of the wishes, available capacity, overall and subject grades and place of residence. If no ranked choice is available, the system may assign a nearby programme. Administrative enrolment at the assigned institution remains necessary. The public network includes UGANC in Conakry, UGLC in Sonfonia, UJNK in Kankan, UK in Kindia, UL in LabĂ© and UZ in N'ZĂ©rĂ©korĂ©. It also includes institutes such as ISSEG, ISAV, ISMG, IST, ISSMV, ISAU, ISAMK, ISIC, ISCAEG and ISFAD, which has eight sites, together with ESTH. Private IES listed in the national catalogue can also offer programmes. Ministry material from 2025 referred to 18 IES, while the current named public list identifies 17, so the catalogue and current authorization should be checked for the year of application. Study locations also include BokĂ©, Faranah, Mamou, Dalaba, Coyah and DubrĂ©ka, making travel, housing and regional access relevant to the choice. A Licence fondamentale normally lasts six semesters, or three years. A Licence professionnelle normally lasts eight semesters, or four years, and is designed with stronger links to employment. Architecture generally lasts five years. A Master normally follows a Licence and adds two years; it may be a Master recherche or a Master professionnel. A Doctorat follows a Master and normally lasts at least three years. Medicine can follow a different structure. The CPGE MPSI pathway is a two-year post-BAC preparatory programme with four semesters; the stated entry conditions include a BAC average of 12, a mention assez bien and a competitive examination. MESRS or MESRSI, the ministry responsible for higher education, regulates public institutions, admissions and national policy. ANAQ evaluates institutions and programmes. Habilitation is the legal authority for an institution to award a particular diploma, while accreditation concerns the evaluation and approval of a programme. A programme appearing in a catalogue does not by itself prove that the whole institution is habilitated. The 2025 regulatory texts A/2025/1091 for Licence, A/2025/1092 for Master and A/2025/1224 for doctoral schools are relevant references when checking current rules. The 2025â2026 Master reform introduced 80 renovated programmes and 2,400 places. It included 800 tuition-free places for the top ten students from each 2024 Licence programme, 800 tuition-free places for Licence holders entering teacher training and 800 public places costing no more than 5,000,000 GNF per year. Ranking rules and a target of at least 25% women where the programme has women applicants applied to the latter allocation. These figures describe specific schemes, not a general national fee rule. Fees differ by institution and programme, and current fees should be confirmed before enrolment. Public-institution students have student insurance covering medical costs, compensation and, in some cases, family support after death. State scholarships exist, but their amounts and eligibility criteria are not uniform. Students receive a personal INE, an identification number used in the higher-education system. They are responsible for accurate BAC data, the required fee, the ranking of their wishes, published deadlines and administrative enrolment. Examination, attendance, appeal, housing and transport rules are generally set by the relevant institution. The public placement period in 2025 ran from 18 August to 6 September. Preparation for the 2026â2027 academic year was active on 27 July and 7 September 2026, but the exact 2026 deadline was not yet published in the available information. The academic year 2025â2026 was scheduled to end on 26 June 2026, with the 2026â2027 rentrĂ©e planned from October 2026. Foreign-BAC equivalence, transfers and mature-entry pathways require separate confirmation because no single general procedure was established in the available national sources. After a Licence, a graduate can seek employment or apply for a Master. After a Master, the usual options include employment, research and doctoral study. InserJeune provides access to internships, work-study opportunities and PĂŽles VIE, while academic mobility and international scholarships depend on the specific programme or call. A tertiary programme does not guarantee a job, a place in a later degree or recognition of a diploma when the institution or programme lacks the required authorization.
Study in Guinea
Tertiary study in Guinea is provided through public and private higher-education institutions and usually follows the Licence-Master-Doctorat structure. The standard entry pathway uses the Baccalauréat, ParcourSup Guinée and a ranked selection of up to 15 programmes. Study options, fees, recognition and access conditions vary by institution, programme and location.
Tip
Choose a specific higher-education programme after checking its legal approval, total cost and place of study. Use your BAC results to rank realistic applications, and do not rely on a special free-tuition offer or an unconfirmed transfer or foreign-certificate pathway. Keep written proof of every approval, payment and enrolment step.
