Nature in Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea contains Congo Basin rainforest, mangroves, wetlands, rivers, estuaries, volcanic islands and highland vegetation. Its protected-area system covers national parks, natural monuments, scientific and natural reserves, and marine protected areas under Ley Núm. 6/2025. These ecosystems support biodiversity, food, local incomes, coastal protection and climate resilience, but face pressure from hunting, forest clearance, overfishing, pollution and habitat fragmentation.

Tip

Treat nature-related plans in Equatorial Guinea as site-specific decisions because access, local rules, infrastructure and seasonal conditions vary by area. For a visit, confirm authorization, guide arrangements, fees, opening conditions, transport and hazards locally; for resource use or a project, establish the exact protected-area category and whether the activity is subsistence, traditional or commercial. Check mapped boundaries and responsible authorities before committing people, equipment or money.
