Living in Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea lies on the west coast of Central Africa along the Gulf of Guinea and comprises the mainland, including the city of Bata, as well as several islands, including Bioko, home to the capital Malabo. Around 1.3 million people live in the country. Tropical rainforest, volcanic mountains and coasts shape the landscape. The climate is warm year-round; Bioko and parts of the mainland receive a great deal of rain, while dry and wetter periods alternate. In the cities, many people live in houses and apartments, while outside the cities they also live in smaller villages. In everyday life, they travel on foot, by taxi or minibus; jobs are found, among other sectors, in administration, trade, the oil industry, agriculture and fishing. Families, neighbourhoods, football and shared meals shape leisure time.
