Living in Georgia

Georgia lies between Europe and Asia, on the Black Sea and in the Caucasus. Around 3.7 million people live there. High mountains, wooded valleys, dry plains and a subtropical coast shape the landscape. The coast is humid and mild, while the east is drier and the mountains are cold and snowy in winter. In Tbilisi, many people live in apartments and use buses, the metro or cars; outside the capital, minibuses and private vehicles are particularly important. Jobs can be found, among other sectors, in services, trade, agriculture and tourism. In villages, home gardens, neighbourhood life and shared meals play a greater role in everyday life than in the cities.
