Art in Gambia

Art in The Gambia includes visual art, craft, music, dance, drama, storytelling, literature, film and cultural heritage practices. Formal support and preservation are coordinated mainly through the NCAC, while much artistic work develops through festivals, associations, workshops, community practice and informal markets. The sector has strong activity in music, performance, oral traditions, craft and heritage, but no single national academy, gallery or centralized art market is reliably documented.

Tip

Choose the route that matches your goal: use the NCAC and an artistic association for formal visibility, festivals or markets for public presentation, the Copyright Office for ownership evidence, and community permissions for living heritage. Treat informal sales and policy announcements as access opportunities, not as proof of copyright, guaranteed funding or a complete national market.
