Living in Fiji
Fiji lies in the South Pacific northeast of New Zealand and consists of more than 300 islands, of which Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are particularly populated; around 883,483 people live there. Tropical forests, coral reefs and volcanically shaped mountains define the landscape. The climate is warm year-round and more humid on the windward coasts; severe tropical storms occur more frequently between November and April. Many people live in towns or villages near the coast, often in simple houses with gardens. Buses and boats connect communities, while remote islands are more difficult to reach. Jobs are available in agriculture, fishing, trade, administration and tourism, among other sectors; leisure activities often revolve around families, communities and the sea.
