Labor market in Ethiopia

Ethiopia's labor market combines a large, mainly agricultural workforce with a smaller formal wage sector and expanding services, trade, manufacturing, construction and digital activities. About 2 million people reach working age each year, while formal job creation remains below the pressure created by population growth and economic risks. Work is often self-employment or unpaid family work, and access to jobs, qualifications and pay differs sharply between rural and urban areas and between regions. The Ministry of Labor and Skills, regional Labour and Skills Bureaus, the Ethiopian Statistics Service, training institutions, employers and employment agencies share responsibilities for statistics, skills and job matching.
