Romantic relationship in Eswatini

Dating and engagement in Eswatini are generally informal. A customary relationship may involve family or chiefdom participation, while civil marriage and customary marriage use different formal pathways. Civil marriage administration involves the Ministry of Home Affairs Civil Registration and Vital Statistics and a marriage officer or Registrar; the current administrative reference is the Marriage Act 1964. Civil marriage applications use Form BMD3. Customary marriage registration uses Form BMD4 and the official service information refers to the couple, witnesses, a Chief representative and a person with red ochre. The same official information states that the customary-marriage submission should be made within 14 days.
