Living in Slovakia

Slovakia is located in Central Europe and has around 5.4 million people. Forests, rivers and the Carpathians shape the country; winters in the mountains are usually cold and snowy, while the south and lowlands are milder and often warm in summer. Many people live in apartments in cities, while in smaller communities they also live in single-family homes. Jobs, universities and public transport are more concentrated in Bratislava and other larger centres than in rural regions. Everyday life ranges from commuting and family life to hiking, cycling, winter sports and meeting in cafés; regional differences are also evident in income, housing and accessibility.
