Living in Egypt

Egypt is located in northeastern Africa and borders the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east. Around 98.4 million people live there, mainly along the Nile and in the Nile Delta. The country is predominantly dry and hot; the desert shapes large parts of it, while the Nile Valley is fertile and the coasts have a more moderate climate. Many people live in densely populated cities or villages along the river, often in multi-storey apartment buildings in Cairo. Buses, trains and ferries connect the different places, while distances are often greater outside metropolitan areas. Work, markets and family life are strongly concentrated in the cities and the Nile Valley.
